Our Statement of Faith - What We Believe

As Partners of The Hervey Bay Baptist Church, we hold as an essential part of our religious beliefs the following doctrines:

About the Bible

The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, are given by divine inspiration, the written word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and conduct.   2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Pet 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105; Prov 30:5

About God

The Triune God exists as the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit, one God indivisible.

The Creation

God created, out of nothing, all things in heaven and earth both visible and invisible.   Gen 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6

About Human Beings

Tempted by Satan, man rebelled against his Creator, became inwardly depraved and subject to divine wrath.   Rom 3:23

The Fall of Man

The salvation of man from the consequence and power of sin is by God's grace alone through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his substitutionary work.  Rom 6:23; John 14:6; Gal 3:26; Eph 2:8-9

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, true God and true man, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary and is the only mediator between God and man. He is the second person of the Holy Trinity, the incarnate Word, the Son of God.

Having fulfilled the obligation of the Law, the Lord Jesus Christ paid the price of sin by dying on the cross in our place; he was buried and, on the third day, (by a mighty act of God), rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father interceding as our Heavenly Priest for us His people. Matt 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 3:16; Heb 4:14-15; Matt 1:23-25; Rom 1:3-4

About the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, through the Gospel, convinces us to repent of our sins and confess Jesus as Lord, resulting in the renewal of heart and mind, sanctifying and preserving us to the heavenly kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As members of God's Family we are endowed with spiritual gifts and the indwelling Holy Spirit, through whom we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord as we are led by that Spirit. No individual gift is deemed necessary for salvation or as a sign of the indwelling Spirit. 1 Cor 3:17; John 16:7-13; 1 Cor 2:12; Gal 5:25; Eph 5:18

The Holy Universal Church

The Bride of Christ, is that body of regenerate believers in Christ who, accepting His absolute control and direction, are united for: corporate worship, fellowship, the preaching of the Gospel, and the making of disciples of all peoples; to encourage, uphold and minister to each other, to strive for social justice and relieve distress.

Second Coming and Final Destiny

We believe the return of our Lord Jesus Christ will be personal and visible; there will be a final judgment; a resurrection of the saved and the lost: those who are saved to the resurrection of Life and those who are lost to the resurrection of Damnation. John 3:16;John 5:11-13; Rom 6:23; Rev 20:15; Matt 2:44-46

The Ordinances

Firstly, of baptism, being the immersion in water of the believer upon profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, symbolic of the identification of the believer in our Lord's death, burial and resurrection.  Col 2:12

Secondly, of communion, a remembrance feast of bread and wine signifying the body and blood of Jesus Christ until He comes: it is an aid to faith and other Christian graces expressing our fellowship in and our communion with our Living Lord.   Mark 14:22-26; 1 Cor 11:23-25

The Priesthood of all Believers

The believer may come confidently to the Father, through Christ, ministering in prayer, praise and worship by a life dedicated to God. Rev 1:6; 1 Pet 2:9

The Sanctity of Marriage

For those not called to celibacy: marriage being a sacred institution instigated by God for the joining together of a man and a woman so that they become one flesh under God until death do part. Children are the blessing of the union under God.   Mark 10:6-9;
