HBBC is not a church that supports mission, it is a church IN mission. We believe that mission starts in our own back yard and moves out to the world. (Acts 1:8). Every person who attends our church has their own mission field through the week-at work, school,or out in the community.
As a church , we are very active in our local Hervey Bay community.
In Hervey Bay, the church is involved in various events throughout the year, including the Whale and Seafood Festivals, Youth Week, Chaplaincy Week, the Week of Prayer, Seniors Week, Operation Christmas Child, the Adopt a Family Christmas appeal and other community events.
Religious Education is a local mission opportunity (overseen by the Hervey Bay Christian Ministers Association). A weekly half hour lesson is offerred to children in our 8 state primary school. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to connect to God and the Bible. The program is led by a dedicated team of volunteers, many from this church. Volunteers are always needed. Contact Julie Terry on 41247200 if you would like to assist with this vital ministry
Glendyne Education and Training Centre provides a school environment for students who are seeking an alternative education program to mainstream schooling such as, small class sizes, hands-on learning and mentor support. Glendyne operates in a rural setting on a 140 acre farm away from the distraction of suburban life. This tranquil setting provides a non-threatening learning environment that is enhanced by a committed team of dedicated and caring staff. To learn more about Glendyne, see their website. Hervey Bay Baptist Church actively supports Glendyne
Chaplaincy - There are over 500 chaplains in schools throughout Queensland and 7 Scripture Union chaplains serving in 9 schools throughout Hervey Bay. Working alongside other caring professionals, Scripture Union Qld Chaplains care for young people's spiritual and emotional needs through pastoral care, activity programs, community outreach and adventure-based learning.
Most importantly, SU Qld Chaplains provide a personal point of Christian contact, care and support for students, teachers and their families within their schools.
Hervey Bay Baptist Church supports the local chaplains and often has fundraisers to raise much needed funds.
Overseas Mission Opportunities
Not only do we support overseas missionaries financially and through prayer (in PNG, Fiji, Ukraine, Vanuatu, South Africa, Bougainville), we also send out short term mission teams to these countries and others.
"The Store House" - We gather items to send onto those in need, in our local area, state or overseas.
Items collected on a regular basis include school books and items to go into shoe-boxes. Donations of new goods gratefully received.
